WooCommerce 8.1.1 Fix Release

  • Security: an ajax endpoint used within the order editor was returning user meta data. This was previously fixed in our 7.0.1 release, but was regrettably reintroduced. More details are available in this dev advisory. #40221
  • We resolved a problem leading to the duplication of order meta data, potentially impacting merchants who have enabled HPOS (High-Performance Order Storage) alongside compatibility mode (sync). #40148

Shipping Methods and Fulfillment: Everything You Need to Know

“Shipping products successfully is one of the most important parts of the customer experience — so choosing the right shipping method is crucial to the success of your ecommerce business. Shoppers expect to pay as little as possible for shipping, get fast delivery, and find all their products in perfect condition.

Balancing these expectations with reasonable costs to your online store requires careful attention to logistics and quality control. While there are a lot of moving pieces (literally!) involved, perfecting your ecommerce shipping strategy doesn’t have to be complicated.”

Online shoppers beware – even 404 pages can steal your card data now

“Cybersecurity researchers from Akamai have discovered a new and somewhat creative way hackers were hiding credit card skimmers on ecommerce websites.

Usually, hackers hide malicious code somewhere on the checkout page and steal sensitive payment information (credit card numbers, full names, expiration dates, etc.) during the purchase process.

In this case, however, Akamai found the malicious code hiding in a site’s 404 page.”

FedEx makes international shipping easier

“FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, is enhancing the online shopping experience for its customers with a new automated e-commerce capability in FedEx Ship Manager (FSM).”FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, is enhancing the online shopping experience for its customers with a new automated e-commerce capability in FedEx Ship Manager (FSM).

Helping small businesses and e-commerce merchants manage shipments online for international FedEx shipments, the enhanced FSM creates shipments in a few steps, saving time on manual data entry to generate shipping labels.”

“Customers in Australia and across 63 countries and territories in AMEA are now able to synchronise their Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and PrestaShop store with FSM. In addition, FedEx customers can link their e-commerce platform or marketplace with FSM to automatically download order information, create and print labels and sync with electronic trade documents, as well as sync tracking numbers and order status updates.”

Balada Injector campaign compromises thousands of WordPress sites

SecurityWeek reports that more than 17,000 WordPress sites, including 9,000 sites vulnerable to the recently addressed TagDiv Composer front-end page builder plugin flaw, tracked as CVE-2023-3169, have been infected as part of the long-running Balada Injector campaign. Malicious code injected into a certain WordPress database facilitated by the exploitation of the vulnerability enabled site access that was then leveraged by threat actors to deploy plugins and backdoors, as well as create admin accounts that would ensure persistence, a Sucuri report revealed.”

WordPress Reverts Live Preview Button on Plugins After Developer Backlash

“Last week WordPress meta contributors implemented a “Live Preview” button for plugins in the official directory, with the intention of allowing users to safely test any plugin in one click. The button went live across all of WordPress.org’s 59,000+ plugins but took plugin developers by surprise as it was pushed through without any communication or input from stakeholders.”Last week WordPress meta contributors implemented a “Live Preview” button for plugins in the official directory, with the intention of allowing users to safely test any plugin in one click. The button went live across all of WordPress.org’s 59,000+ plugins but took plugin developers by surprise as it was pushed through without any communication or input from stakeholders.

The implementation was premature and failed to take into consideration the many different types of plugins that appear to be broken due to inadequate support in the Playground testing environment.”

Ollie Theme Now Available on WordPress.org

“The free Ollie block theme, created by Mike McAlister and Patrick Posner, is now available for download on WordPress.org. A contentious review process led the team to remove the onboarding features, despite having gotten the green light from WordPress’ leadership who advocated for moving forward with the experiment. The version of Ollie available on WordPress.org is simply the theme without the guided onboarding experience that reduces the amount of time it takes to get through the first 30-40 minutes of setting up the theme.”

Bulk Move Plugin

“Bulk Move Plugin allows you to move posts in bulk from one category, tag or custom taxonomy to another.
This Plugin also allows you to disassociate posts from a certain category, tag or custom taxonomy.

If you looking for deleting posts or users in Bulk, instead of just moving them, then use Bulk Delete Plugin instead.”
